PRINCIPAL FUNCTION:
The Children’s Ministries Leader, (CML), is an adult who has been employed by First Southern Baptist Church to over-see the ministry for children, birth through fifth grade. This person will become a church member and report to the Pastor and coordinate and work alongside the Children’s Ministry Team. The Children Ministry Coordinator will lead in the creation of a comprehensive program of Christian development and education of children. The Children Ministry Coordinator will also help the church body of FSBC better reach the families of these children.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
- Solid Biblical grounding in conjunction with a lifestyle that exemplifies the Christian Faith and personal integrity that goes with it.
- A passion for God coupled with a call to minister to this age group and their families.
- Agreement with the faith and doctrine of FSBC.
- A desire to teach and disciple children
- Familiarity with and experience in planning, organizing, promoting, and leading programs/ministries for children.
- A passion and ability to discover, enlist, train, and supervise lay leaders to assist with the ministry to children and their families.
- A willingness to learn and grow spiritually and professionally.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Survey the ministry needs to children, birth through fifth grade in our church and community. Advise the Pastor of ministry options as directed by the Lord.
- Lead the Children’s Ministry Team (CMT), in developing a comprehensive program of spiritual development for children and a plan for reaching their parents/guardians. (i.e. Creating a Sunday or Wednesday evening Children’s ministry program.)
- Teach and/or schedule teachers for Children’s Church.
- Represent the children’s ministry at church business meetings.
- Discover, enlist, train, and develop leaders, in cooperation with the CMT, for the planning and conducting of the various programs identified as necessary for a balanced and healthy children’s ministry.
- Provide leadership, in conjunction with the Pastor, for any teacher training meetings.
- Provide guidance to the Pastor on the children’s Sunday school department and Nursery on any potential changes that may need to happen. (i.e. Adding a new children’s Sunday school class.)
- Over-see the Nursery Department by ensuring that the Nursery Director has the space and workers needed to fulfill that ministry.
- Advise in the selection and use of program materials, equipment, supplies and space needs of the various children’s ministries and organizations such as Sunday school and Children’s Church.
- Schedule bus driver and monitors for Sunday & Wednesday.
- Assist in the development and administration of a budget to support the ministry to children and their families.
- Supervise the planning and evaluation of the Children’s Ministry Team (CMT).
- Oversee the purchase of necessary supplies for the children’s ministries area.
- Organize and oversee a ministry of visitation, outreach, and follow-up for children, birth through fifth grade.
- Coordinate any special events/activities for children’s ministry.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Children’s Ministry Policy for FSBC to ensure the safety of the children, church, and volunteers.
- Comply with all applicable local, state and federal guidelines and laws.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned by the Pastor.

First Southern Baptist Church of El Dorado is a small, but growing, congregation (average worship attendance is in the high 80’s) whom God is blessing with a large number of children (around 20)! Our desire with the Children’s Ministry Leader is to more effectively reach out to not only the children for the Lord but the families of these Children as well. We currently have Sunday school, a Children’s Church during the worship, and Pioneer Kids Club on Wednesday evenings. The position will start at around 15-20 hours a week but our desire is that the position will grow with the ministry.
